Default Underwater Cave Survey Class 1-2 NOV 14

Underwater Cave Survey Class 1-2NOV14- A few have asked me to give an underwater cave survey class while I am down here in cave country. This is an opportunity for you to learn the basics of Walls cave survey software, and how to use it for cave diving, as well as two of the hardest cave diving skill days you will probably ever do (say some of my earlier students.) We will dive at Jackson Blue (no further than the shallow areas) and you will make your own basic map in two very long days. (Should be three days.) Skills include data entry, line plot creation, sketching, and discussion about laying exploration line with thought to survey. There is no cost to attend, though you must RSVP, as I can only handle 12 in once class. You must provide your own laptop with Walls software installed. If you are interested, send me an email at [email protected]

This should be an awesome class. Wish I could be there, there's not many that could give as good a class on cave survey (and hopefully how to progress into making maps too!).

Jason, I'd be happy to offer a hand with students and any software issues leading up to the class if it helps you at all. I just recently relieved my self of the burden of any Windows OSes and was pleasantly surprised to find I could run Walls in Linux without any issues (haven't tried any of the 3D stuff that's bundled with Walls). This most likely means that people on MacOS could run it as well.

Enjoy the class and get some good survey!
