Volunteers needed for In-water recompression/doppler study 9/27 Hudson Fl with IANTD

Volunteers are needed for an in-water recompression study with doppler by IANTD. The study will be Saturday 9/27 at Hudson Grotto. Volunteers will need their own reg, BC, thermal protection etc. Tanks and fills will be provided.

Please let me know by noon 9/26 so we can have all the right gases and tanks prepared. Spaces are limited- so first come, first serve. Divers will be at depth for 25 minutes, then deco for 30 minutes, dopplers preformed, in-water recompression procedure, then dopplers again.

several weeks ago I met the doc at Ginnie who told me about this. I offered to post it and share around the info if they needed volunteers. Ne'er a peep. One day notice would make it tough for most.

A lot of great information came out of yesterdays study. Like all studies some things confirmed and new questions raised. Look forward to a great article in the next Underwater Speleology. Big thanks to Joe Duturi, Dr. Mohamed Javed, Dr.Farhand Sadquidi, Dr Richard Sadler, Jeffery Dougliss, Rod Allen, Colt Smith, Math(Alex), and the NSS-CDS's own Cheryl Doran. There were many more people there who's names I cant remember, and an army of volunteer divers. Maybe someone else can fill in the gaps.

This was my first real outing with the cave dive community. I am not especially sociable, but I found every moment of this study enjoyable, due in large part to the people there. The skill of the safety divers was incredible - almost super-human, at least to someone like me. I aspire to be that good one day.

Please excuse me as I get on my soapbox for a moment: This research is VITALLY important. Decompression research is no longer much in vogue - grants and studies are at an all-time low. We now have the technology to do the studies that we wished we could have done in the 50's. When this sort of research is conducted, it is not just technical divers who benefit. Doing studies like this provides possible insight into bubble physics and human physiology as well. Bubble physics is important - cavitation is not only a suggested mode of injury in decompression sickness, but is also of importance in things such as propellers on ships, in pumps, and in certain unusual animals. I volunteered because I consider this research to be an extremely worthwhile use of my time. Please support this research and be part of the growing body of knowledge on these topics. I'll hop off this high horse now, but take a moment and think about it.
