    Default Shearwater Petrel

I have a Shearwater Petrel sealed, new in the box for sale. I picked up one more than needed when I purchased. My schedule not allowing as much dive time as I'd like and could use the money. Asking $800.00. I will pick up the postage up to a reasonable amount.

If interested you can PM or call 404-983-7041.

One post in over four and a half years? Super lurker!

It's all about priorities my friend

I do dive with John on occasion and know this to be a square deal.

Hope to dive with you again soon my friend.

So I was curious if this unit was covered by warranty or not, since this is not coming from a dealer any more - I emailed Shearwater about this from their website - and got the response below about 5 minutes later:

    "Hi Russ,
We have a 2 year warranty and it doesn't matter who owned the unit previously, we will still honor the warranty.
If you can provide me with the serial number I can tell you how long is remaining on the warranty period.

Pretty awesome company, and even better knowing that you can pick up a deal like this and still have to manufacturer stand behind the unit.

even if they didn't have a policy like that, this is the kind of company that IS going to go to bat for you, the consumer. Hat's off.

Shearwater sets the standard for customer service, right up there with Dive Rite.

Sorry, are we talking about the same Dive Rite? 'Cause even after 2 calls and a comical week-long email exchange, they still couldn't tell me what kind of connection their computer used to interface with a CCR. Like, no clue at all. And no willingness to try.

John: is this a Fischer or standalone unit?

which computer are you talking about? They just redesigned the whole head for the optima for the Shearwater bus system similar to the ISC Pathfinder. The Petrel for the Meg and Pathfinders have their own system that Leon developed, but the rest of the DiveCan breathers have a standard canbus connector on them. I can't remember the name of the connection but if you email Shearwater they'll tell you. It's nothing secret. I think they developed it as a mini version of what the gas industry uses for submersible connectors, but it's nothing they won't tell you.

The learning curve for DR is big on this one, so with them not being able to tell you was likely because they didn't fully understand how the system worked. Not sure who you were emailing, but the change from the old Hammerhead stuff over to DiveCan makes it a whole new beast to handle. The new head has almost nothing in common with the old one other than there are 4 O2 cells in it and some batteries. It took the whole system from analog to digital and while they are the mfg, depending on who you talked to, i.e. anyone other than Lamar or Jared, I wouldn't expect them to know this early in the game everything about the new head design, especially since Shearwater did most of the work, it's their system not DiveRites. You can still attach fischer analog stuff to the digital system fwiw.

The Petrel has found a home. Thanks for all of the offers and great comments.
