I have had a few different lights/brands over the years and out of all I prefer my light monkey over all the rest.they have amazing customer service and there lights are bullet proof.i have both an led 26w 20ah and a 35watt hid 20 ah split ballast I still prefer my hid over led as,led really doesn't punch through that not so good vis like hid does.not to mention I have dropped my hid a few times and never broke the bulb..if you are looking for a smaller can with decent burn time you should look at led..halcyon just came out with a focusable led and the can is super small and still has over a 5hr burn time...

I am eyeballing the LM LED26 or now the LED32. I agree with you that LM is great -all around. I have a couple of HIDs that I would like to exchange for LED. So a "smaller" canister canister with an LED will still yield decent burn time results.

I have not had my hands on the new Halcyon one yet - looks very intriguing but I am afraid of the price tag already ...

I perfer the UWLD lights. The only company that if I call them, I get teh owner/builder/repair tec man. He is also gives alot of info about what is truly tehlight output. Has a awsome warrenty and fixes almost any brand. He still dives what he sells and is a avid cave diver the dives so much. Look at UWLD and the rest. Then ifyou have a question about what you are looking at, then call and talk to Bobby, he will tell you the truth and get you in the right light for YOU.

The halcyon light is only around 1300$ about average for a light in that class I haven't seen it in the water but I hear it's pretty nice

The primary reason is size on the belt and I guess if used with an LED head it could work out well. If the idea seems fruitful I would incorporate an "E/O" cord ...

So my questions are about the ease of charging, the On/Off switch, over-all reliability and user maintenance friendliness. Any feed back is welcome.

    Many thanks.

What exactly are you looking for in the battery canister? I'm not all that familiar with Sartek but a quick look at their website and it looks like they have a couple of different styles of canisters. If you're looking for a slim canister, check out the TillyTec line. Best lights I've seen in years.

(Full disclosure - I am a TillyTec distributor/dealer. I liked the lights so much that I wanted to be able to sell them to my students.)

Thanks SLIM - I did snoop at his web-site and have to admit that it looked intriguing. Also the canister was nice and small ...

Why not just ask Carl? He just reworked a few lights for me of various brands and workmanship and pricing were spot on.

He's got some innovative solutions too. Neat guy to talk to.

Have had a sartek 10w hid since 2000 original canister mounted on backplate side with X cell batteries about 2"x16". Sent in for mod to go to NiMH which allowed belt mount and case is about 6" long now. Lots off dives with few problems mostly light bulb failure or battery age (replacement). Haven't really used much lately been on 35w led. Not sure if I will be replacing batteries on this one again.
