Yes, we often use them for that purpose - in a large room or passage it enables you to find the line again easily when you're exploring off to the side. It's often not practical to scout around the walls of a large room while running a reel. You could have your buddy stay on the line and we often do that, but in deep large cave it's much more efficient for each team member to take one side and both use the strobe for reference. It is very reassuring to glance behind you and easily see your exit point.
I'm sure you put a lot of work in making that video so kudos to your team. Your cave dive video is just extraordinary.
