    720 cf total BO?

We carry more and no set up needed: 108s and an 80. 3 people. Six scooters. Slam dunk simple and no set up.

Jason...course i know no RB. Im not busting your balls but i am curious about a for instance. Thats all. Think planning thirds is an attempt to simplfy the contingencies youre thinking about. A mayonnaise method, if you will.

Assuming that a dive that far will be at least partially in a spring (not a siphon). This increases safety and lessens the unknown cave conditions that would turn the dive early. If trying to go 10k by just dropping the tailgate and jumping in, that's not safe to begin with, even if you planned to carry a bunch of BO gas. A safe way to plan for gas at this point would be to put one AL80 every 2k in up to 6k on a setup dive and then everyone carries 2 AL80's up to 8k. then the team decides if conditions warrant an 8k drop or run the rest of the way with both 80' on each diver. That's 9 al80's
(3 man team carry 2 each and one at 2k, one at 4k, and one at 6k) with 720 cft of gas, and at an expected exit at 50 per minute there would be about 640 cft of gas ( at .8 sac) used by one diver swimming out from max p'. This also puts the multiplier up against reg failures and distance needed to swim to fresh gas. Also, the fact that there would be four scooters lessens the likelihood of swimming total distance. The setup dive could be done with each diver carrying only one 80 to drop. of the two they would use for the dive and even at 6k there would be the other two 80's on the floor on the way out. This is what I would do as a minimum of BO gas and dive prep/planning.

I just re read this..Youre saying a single diver would need 640 cf to exit? So explorers in OC carried 24 80s? Or it's equivalent....

    Not sure I agree.

Team bailout, all good until one of the team is stuck in a restriction... but what are the odds? Nobody could see that coming..could they?

Lol, like me being stuck in a restriction for 20 minutes on Sunday? Nah, that never happens. Hahaha.

I know. No worries. Yes, thirds is a simplification. It doesn't paint the whole picture for anything other than doubles in two man teams.

I don't know that team BO is being offered as a solution. Quite the opposite, actually. Seems all suggestions are nearly obscene amounts of gas not necessary to do the entire dive on OC.

    23. But who's counting. And you were not stuck so much as "negotiating".

That's true. Negotiating is a much better word. Haha

No that's not what I said, I am just putting out what I would be comfortable with when a team of three divers plan a dive to 10k at 100'.
It seems as though everyone wants to cut gas to the absolute minimum. I am not comfortable with the minimum. Dives past 5 or 6k are not dives that I would try to cut to the bare minimum. If someone wants to treat a dive to 10k as if it was just another dive, then that's fine. I don't. AND if I am going to 10k I want to enjoy the dive and not have to cut corners or cut dive time in order to get the 10k glory marker, have at it but I think they are diving for the wrong reason. I realize that we would like to think of ourselves as explorers, but if it's got line already-you are just a tourist. To do one dive to setup and enjoy the cave and to carry one more bottle on the way out is not even an issue of inconvenience. It's more diving and more fun. This is not a debate as to who can do the dive with the least BO gas. If you want to be the one that will do it on an RB and a single 80-that's fine, but it is not what makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

It seems that there is an awful lot of chest thumping going on here, as opposed to dive planning with what would be adequate/safe. I you feel good about yourself because you can do a dive with no prep and very little margin for error......oh well then.
