In the context he was referring to cavern/cave dives. He said "anyone can make up cave dives on paper" he also said "a computer does not lie". It's just his way I guess.

Paper has the advantage that you can get your buddy to sign it. And if he/she is well known, which is not unlikely in our smallish community, that piece of paper will be pretty much genuine.
When it comes to electronic cave dives, those are even quicker to fabricate than paper. I could export all of mine from MacDive into UDDF and send them to you, they even include appropriate text and all.

Wanna share. Maybe a dropbox link?

Now he's changed it to you can't move on until you buy a computer. Slick willy style.
Here are two in my area:

    1. $359 class fee....plus:
Fee includes classroom, pool and open water instruction, use of scuba equipment during pool work, student kit (text, repetitive dive table, & log). Fee does not include Snorkeling gear (mask, snorkel, fins, & boots – approximate cost $229.00), scuba gear for open water training (student rental package includes wet suit, regulator, BCD with Air II, tanks, gauges, and the weight belt – $159.00 for the weekend). Students are required to use our rental package for all training… Sorry no exceptions! Cost of check out trip to Destin, Florida is $250.00. Hotel not included.
    2. OR, only $300 for the class! (+$325 to go with for a trip for checkout dives + rental $$, OR $75 for a "referral package" to get checkout dives from someone else!)

Small wonder it took me 10 years after high school to actually start following my childhood dream of scuba diving. I'm hoping to join or start a scientific diving program wherever I end up when I finish my PhD...not for profit, for science and for the enrichment of the personal experience.

I use MacDive to log my dives, while also using a paper log book for just the basic info. It's redundant, but the macdive software show me my profile and the logbook usually gets all my little notes about the day.

I'm finding more and more issues that I don't like about macdive though... using two tanks that can have different pressure is not supported, you have to take an average and click "double tanks," so sidemount isn't really supported. Sac rate calculation is nice, except it's really talking about RMV. Support is really nonexistent, as the forum is not active.

I use DiveGuide.com they even have a checkmark for cave dives.... android and apple app's (though I don't use the app to log my dives, it still has issues) I find I'm a LOT more compliant about logging if I can do it online.... and if you really want, they support uploads from suunto dive manager.

Maybe I'll try that. I just tried importing some logs from macdive to subsurface...did you know the bottom of the chimney in JB is 300' deep? I may have some bugs to work out....

Writing a decent dive log application that works like I want it to has been on the list for a while. Just too many things keep pushing that back. It would just be for windows and whatever computer I'm diving at the time, which is Shearwater.

I like the map feature in subsurface, although not particularly the way it works. Or how it crashes the app.

It would be more specifically focused on cave diving with the ability to enter non-dive locations or really a free-form entry for something you wanted to track, integrate survey data, things like that.

I have wanted a good and simple printable log book that would basically look like a hand written book since I got my first pc interface. Im not literate in programming or I would have done it years ago.

Email Nick [email protected] with your requests in Mac-Dive. He has been extremely helpful with my requests and even sent me a beta version with the updates.
