I have two drager dolphin SCR's for sale. your choice $1500.00 each. Both are ready to dive and include two tanks and regs, plus bailout tank and reg. One is standard Zeagle BC and one has been modified for use with a backplate and harness and wing (included in price). Also available is a complete parts kit, everything needed to rebuild both systems several times over, plus additional parts (large wheeled pelican case of parts and spares). Parts kit is $500.00 and includes the pelican case!

All three for $3200.00. Great price to try out SCR for those thinking of going SCR or CCR later on.

You getting another Rebreather?

No, I won't be getting another rebreather. I'm actually going the other way.... out of diving all together.... maybe. possibly. or maybe not.... downsizing anyway.

the gear I actually use I'm keeping. The dolphins were and are a good first step into rebreather world at a price that's not pricey. I learned all the basic stuff about them and dove the dolphin a few times, modifying one slightly with an eye to cave diving it. But I've been having a difficult time with a bad ear. The tympanic membrane has been tearing nearly every time I dive. I've long had equalizing issues, but now the left ear blows with almost no pressure and there is no warning, no pressure buildup, no pain - it just makes a funny sound that's almost not there and the rest of the dive I have no equalization issues at all. My ENT has been warning me about how it will eventually fail and won't heal - that every time I blow it and it heals it comes back thinner and weaker until one time it will not heal at all. I've blown it more than a dozen times in as many years. Three times so far this year alone. It's blown right now and I'm not diving for the next month to six weeks.

I've been using Doc Pro Plugs so that when it does blow, less chance of water intrusion, but this latest event brought even more dire warnings from my ENT - little bones punching through cochlea, permanent total hearing loss (one ear anyway), brain infection, scar tissue build-up, and other unpleasant possibilities. So here I am, to dive or not to dive? It's just the one ear....I do have two after all.... but permanent vertigo? cochlea implant? brain infection? At what point is the risk too great?

One thing for sure, I don't need three rooms of scuba gear lying around getting older and not getting wet! So out it goes to those who can and will use it.

Sorry to hear this. Hopefully someday they will be able to 3d print a genetically matched membrane. Until then stay well.

That is not good news at all. We going to still you this September at the Midwest conferance?
I guess its going to be a time to make a big list and start figureing out what you must sell and what you HAVE to keep.

To keep it positive, maybe a few years and all will be good so that you can get back in the water evne if it is for OW FOFO stuf.

Thanks everyone. My plans are pretty much up in the air for now although I can't imagine not diving at least some ...OW FOFO dives! But time will tell. I have given up teaching scuba, all levels. I simply do not think it safe to put students in a position where they may have to rescue the instructor! However, I have thought of doing "Tennessee Scuba Consulting Services!" I can still tell people what I think, how I think best to do this or that! No c-card, but we aren't in it for the cards, right? tongue in cheek here....

And yes, I do still plan on the tropical paradise - a few more years to go. I was a sailor before turning to diving and if diving is no longer going to consume all my money and time, then maybe a nice sailboat moored in the Caribbean would be an acceptable substitute! And surely snorkeling, shallow reef dives to catch dinner, an air tank to breathe while cleaning the boat bottom, would be ok too.

Which brings me back to the gear. The remaining dolphin is reduced to $950.00 and includes everything needed to dive it (two tanks, bailout bottle, regs, sorb, etc.) plus a grab bag of spare bits and pieces. A few have pm'd about using the unit in caves along with side mount and I've discussed how I had it set up to do that (and there's lots of stuff online on mods other's have made for everything from cave to trimix to fully closed circuit). The dolphin has a 3-hour scrubber that can be extended to 4 hours and in practice is much like the KISS GEM (or SideKick). A gas extender.
