Dear Florida-Loving Folks,

It is now 3 days till the Florida 2014 Legislative Session ends!

Word is that negotiators for the House and Senate struck their deal to appropriate a non-recurring $25 million in the budget for Springs this session.

But, things can still change.

CS/CS/SB 1576 is on the Special Order Calendar to be heard on the Senate Floor Wednesday, April 30, 2014.

The “Florida Springs and Aquifer Protection Act”, SB 1576, started out as a strong comprehensive plan for Florida’s “Outstanding Florida Springs” (OFS), but at the Senate Appropriations (AP) hearing, when push came to shovel, major portions of the bill were removed in an attempt to stymie special interests lobbyists’ concerns (they’re still not satisfied with the watered down version) and bring the House on board (an effort that just seems to be treading water).

1000 Friends of Florida continue to support this bill, calling it “a down payment on continuing work that will rely on the passage of Amendment 1, The Water and Land Legacy Amendment, in November, that will provide dedicated funding for all Florida Forever programs, including springs protection.”*

Let’s keep at this.

Please Contact Florida’s Politically Elected Leaders and ask them to support Major Funding for the Protection of Florida Springs and their Aquifer.
