    Default Remember Rule #6!

I had to delete a thread that was a clear violation of rule #6:

No personal opinions or endorsements (negative or positive) about other individuals, businesses, or cave diving organizations.

There are many wonderful places to stay in cave country, but our rules preclude our singing their praises.

I thought it was okay to offer positive critiques as long as it did not become a flame thing. I can understand not wanting posts that basically say this or that joint sucks for personal reasons, but have yet to see much harm in someone relating a positive experience they might have had somewhere. This can be a valuable tool for those traveling down when they are in the planning stages. I usually take anything negative with a grain of salt myself as I know my tastes differ greatly from others. But I do pay attention when someone has something positive to say.

I agree DeWayne. There are plenty of praises for equipment; why not places to stay?

I know you guys are just asking but not all folks are fair and open-minded. Some folks don't know when to quit. It's one thing to say that this or that & both places are fine. We all have our favorites. Some people like privacy. Some people are early to bed, early to rise. Some people like group environments and bonfires. Some people want solitude. Some people want a whole home away from home. That doesn't make one place particularly better than the other, just different. To gushingly go overboard and say thus and such is way better than the other (equally fine establishments) is unfair. We have a great forum here because we won't compromise the integrity of it. #6 is one rule that won't be bent or broken.

So does rule 6 keep us from spreading the word if we have bad service from somebody? It looks like it does. I can see limited but relevant information about negatives, but I think we all want to know about positive service, places to stay and equipment when it is done tastefully.

How about if we can't sing the praises of a particular operation or facility that there be a place to list the places available. Perhaps lodging, gas fills, repairs, etc. Something controlled by the moderators so that they can keep it as unbiased as they see fit. Of course it would be up to all the viewers to check the information out themselves. Kind of a one stop information center rather than search all over the internet.

The service rendered by the CDF could be good or it could be bad, I am not allowed to say...

There are ways to share info without breaking rules. For instance:

"I was considering staying at ABC Motel and diving through XYZ Dive Shop. If you have had any experiences with either of these two operations, please PM me and tell me how you liked them."
