    Default DEP Schedule Meetings

Email from the Florida Conservation Coalition

    Dear FCC Members,

Over the next five weeks the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will hold a series of public meetings to take input on prioritizing the state’s water quality monitoring and restoration efforts for the next two years. The meetings will help determine when Total Maximum Daily Loads and Basin Management Action Plans are developed and implemented for Florida's waters.

Meetings are scheduled in Live Oak, West Palm Beach, Fort Myers, Pensacola, Orlando and Bartow. It is important that local environmental advocates attend and express support for water quality monitoring and restoration projects that prevent nutrients and pollution from entering Florida’s waters. See below for a full list of meeting dates and locations, and click here to see the full announcement from DEP.

    Best,

    Ryan Smart

Is there a specific agenda item that you're looking for us to comment on?

Thanks for doing your part. I would like to attend the meeting but I have a dermatologist appointment.

Together we can do great things.

    Kelly,
Are you more familiar with these regs? Do TMDLs have to do with diver/bather load limits (like we see at Manatee) or is this strictly a water quality thing?

Diver/swimmers limits are carrying capacities that are set by the park in their unit management plan. These limits are set based on many factors, including wear and tear on the resource. TMDLs are a big issue in the state, and cave divers who appreciate clean water aka water clarity, then yes this is a concern. As a group we tend to ignore the water issues in the state of Florida,be it quality or quantity, but it has a huge impact on the future of our sport. There will reach a time that we can no longer ignore these issues, and hopefully it won't be too late.
