Taina Cave, Santo Domingo, DR
this was a cave/cavern dive located in Santo Domingo, Dominicon Republic. The dive site was located approx 15 minutes away from the city of Santo Domingo, which is the capital of the DR. The dive was through Golden Triangle Dive shop, which is a tech diving shop located in the city of Santo Domingo, and was very close to where we were staying at. the shop has all the tech gear one would expect to see, including EAN fills, as well as Helium Fills, they offer cave dives, as well as deep wreck dives.
the cave/cavern dive was at Taina Cave, which is more like a cavern, however the areas we surfaced within the cavern, were not safe to breathe the air. the vizability was great, I wish the camera batteries lasted through the first dive in the ocean, so the pics I have are just of the surrounding areas, with my phone. :-(
The area is private, and you need to dive with a dive shop, to gain access to the gated area. there are rest-rooms, and a nice area to get your gear all ready.
The water temp is cooler, and a 3-5 ML wet suit should be sufficient, I dove w/ a 3 ML shorty and I was fine the entire dive, and didn't feel cold at all. The conditions are such that a BM tank dual tank configuration can be used, or else SM. Some of the areas go down to around 40-50' and they are rocky bottom, so silty conditions area rare at this location from what I am told and what we experienced with the dive.
I would enjoy doing another dive @ this location, as there was way more to see. the staff at Golden Triangle were great, and knew the dive site very well. It was a very enjoyable dive. Suggest it for anyone on vacation, that wants to get a dive in.
