    Plastic sheeting should work, or spraying them with a mist of water, so it freezes instead of the trees.

    I'm putting a big box upside-down over each of them, with a 7w nightlight inside.

    If anyone uses plastic to cover the plants, make sure it isn't touching the foliage (will leave dead marks), and pull the plastic off as soon as the temps come above 40F or you will broil your plants!

    For my tomato plants I use some cheap polyester blankets that I got for a dollar apiece at a yard sale. I've never put any source of heat under them.
