Ok, I'm sorry but what he want's makes no sense.

If you are reading this, I was one of the divers that recovered your son and grandson that night. I would like you to know I have over 150 dives in Eagles Nest and I would like to tell you the truth about what happened. That cave did not kill them if anything it was trying to help them survive that day. When I entered the water that night the first time I was so happy with the system, I couldn't of asked for better water conditions, it was some of the best visibility I've ever seen in there. When I shined my light in the basin I could see all the way to the other side which is very rare. When I entered the ballroom it was crystal clear, that was why we were able to find them so fast. I've been in the basin on other dives with less than 2 feet of visibility and the ballroom just as bad. Sir, that cave was doing it's best to help them get out of there that day. You couldn't of asked for better diving conditions that day in that cave. I'm sorry it happened but there are many signs posted at Eagle's Nest saying to stay out unless you're trained. I wish they would of listen to that and to other divers saying don't go in there. That cave and the trained cave divers that enjoy it don't need to be punished for what happened, it's not their fault.

Thank you Eric. I would not have been so nice with my words considering the lack of judgement in this case. I guess one could argue both sides of the love issue but to me this takes loving your kid to death to a new extreme. To blame a natural place like Eagles Nest pretty much says it all. I just heard of a 29 year old dying in an avalanche in Colorado. Do we blame the mountain, snow or the type of board we was on? People die on highways every minute of the day. Should we close all the highways, outlaw cars and drivers licenses? Just when do people wake up and start being responsible for their own actions? We already know guns kill people all the time but honestly this crap with blaming anything and everything is out of hand. Wake up, grow up and accept responsibility for your own actions. If it wasn't for cave divers there would be many bodies in all the caves because there would be nobody to recover them.

Regulations or not, people will die by their own actions and caves will never be exempt from that issue. No more than guns, automobiles, planes or drugs!!

While what you say makes perfect sense, for some reason the world seems to look on caves differently. Where I live in Colorado, we have some of the best rock climbing sites in the world. We have highly skilled climbers going up these walls every day that there is decent weather. We also have untrained people making climbs beyond their ability, and sometimes they fall and die. I can't imagine anyone would call for closing off the most dangerous climbing routes because someone who had no business being there died.

And yet it happens with caves.

I don't know why people see caves differently, but for some reason they do.

I hate to say I said so,but my other comments said this is a strong possibility. This gathered national attention,and has sympathetic ears. The cave diving community leadership (all agencies) need to have real solutions in hand and meet with the controlling parties. The cave diving community has made some efforts like signage and talking to shops that direct noncave divers there,but more is needed and soon.

Can it be possible to get with the certifying orgs and dd a small part of the safety of cave diving. Maybe add Lamar's video, some real world incidents, and other info during the OW/AOW classes...I know in mine, we talked about a brief incident and pretty much, don't go in caves. Maybe adding something could help. The problem I have seen, is the instructors are taking the students beyond the limits themselves. Until this stops to begin with, we will get no where.

BP, I'm actively working with some great people to get that to happen. We're working on creating a hi-def video like Lamar's video. It will be professional done by the best in the business. Our goal is try to get this type of video shown at every OW class. I'll keep you guys posted.

Those of us who have spent countless hours and dollars on training and equipment WILL NOT be negatively affected by cheap stupid dumbfucks.... It has now gone beyond empathy and sympathy.. If your offspring and their subsequent spawn are stupid and die.. It's genetic.. Look at yourself and leave those of us who chose to pursue this sport alone. Go away you #######.
