A fairly significant part of my cave training was spent on uw communication, though little of it is done with speech.

Have you ever witnessed a Cave class with Mr Wyatt??? I swear he has the ability to converse better than many outside of the water. And it was my buddy that messed up, not me. I'm certain of that.

DD, start exploring the search feature on this site and you'll find a ton of info. And welcome to the CDF.

The narrow group of divers who wrote the original safety guidelines should rethink their collective positions on running lines to open water

The original guideline was for each dive team to run a "temporary" guideline to open water! The line was removed as the team exited the system, removing temptation and navigation assistance to those who should not be going in there.

Some frequently visited sites have extended the main line to open water to prevent a tangle of temporary guidelines from the half-dozen or more teams that may be accessing the site at a time.

You should have been at the social this week. A bunch of us were sitting around a picnic table with Forrest talking about this.

Do you know why the Dive Rite primary reel holds 400' of line? Because that's how much was needed to get to the permanent line at Devil's Ear.

I always thought complacency meant lack of awareness, inattention, etc. It surprised me to learn it means "a feeling of being satisfied with how things are and not wanting to try to make them better" It also is defined as self-satisfaction with one's abilities and accomplishments.
