    Default Jug and Cow

Just a quick heads up, I dove Cow today and the upper hinge on the gate is missing the bolt. I looked on the ground around the gate and couldn't locate it. As it is you can easily lift the gate off the hinges and open it while it's still locked.

Also dove Jug and there were several carvings I noticed on the exit. Once you come through the Diamond Sands restriction straight ahead there is a large boulder near the top someone has carved Good and some other unknown letters. I don't know how long they've been there I just noticed them yesterday. They looked fresh, but then again I may have just been overlooking them. It really sucks someone would do that to such a nice cave.

On a good note Cow is beautiful, flow is moderate, vis was 40'. The new steps are great!

Jug was crystal clear, Spent a lot of time just poking around. The walk as usual was long.

Tony, hopefully our schedules will eventually line up so we can come down at the same time.

Jug Hole has a lot of old graffiti in the OW/cavern zone that goes back to when it wasn't a state park, this is may be more of the same. There is actually a project that is underway to address these issues in state parks.

I hope so, I don't want to see Jug ruined, it is a really nice looking cave.

Wait a minute, Trey, you wrote the carving was just past the diamond sands restriction coming out?
That'd put it beyond the entrance restriction and well within the cave...

I had to do a fauna count there on Saturday, and we are working on a grafitti eradication program for the parks,so I checked that closely. You might be able to get "good" out of it,but it is hard to form enough complete letters to make this word. One thing I can say for sure, this is very old. We did some grafitti removal of a 3'x3' test spot, and Saturday was to see the results after 3 months. There was no patina or staining. These markings are stained and very old, anything new will really stand out like a sore thumb. Probably the most disturbing thing is around 350' when you enter a small tunnel, you see where people having been touching the floor, which is clay. There are obvious multiple gouge marks where someone is trying to pull and glide but is contacting clay. Yeah flow is strong, and in the absence of rock-swim. Actually flow levels are down 25%,with exception of the bedding plane and diamond sands,I had no need to pull, even with a camera, logging slate and a hydrolab for drag.
