2014 NSS-CDS Midwest Workshop Host Volunteer Needed

Hi friends. The proposed organizer for the 2014 Midwest Workshop just stepped down from his post, and someone needs to step up to take over the responsibility if this successful event is to happen again next year.

The past couple of years it has been held in the St. Louis area, but this is not a requirement. If someone wishes to take the helm and hold the event somewhere else in the Midwest, a change would be welcome.

If you do wish to hold it in the St. Louis area, I have already secured a meeting room for Sept. 20, 2014, at no charge provided we purchase the meal from them. I also have a local shop that will provide sponsorship in the way of soliciting and donating door prizes and providing A/V equipment. I can also provide a few volunteers for day-of-event help in collecting tickets, selling raffle tickets, etc.

What the volunteer organizer will need to offer to do or delegate includes the following:
*Secure guest speakers for the event
*Publicize the event
*Coordinate with NSS-CDS Board of Directors for agenda and on-line ticket sales

Great news! The event is back on! Put Sept. 20, 2014 on your calendar, and wait patiently for the promos that should start coming out in the coming months. We always get some of the best speakers from the Florida Workshop, as well as some outstanding presentations from local/regional divers doing cool stuff in the Midwest.

Hi Bill—CR Davis here in AlexandriaVA. I dug your name out of some old posts on cave diver.net—plus Bob atOdyssey Scuba mentioned your name. I also saw you were listed in a recentNSS article about the OCDA.



I have done all my diving in Florida andMexico. I have been doing mostly side mount lately because of a shoulderinjury. I am looking to pay for some guided dives in the Missouricaves—Rubidoux and Cannonball. I don't know if you do that or could recommendanyone who does. Thanks for any leads. Not sure of your instructor statusbut I am also looking for a trimix class at some point.

Hi CR,

I can certainly set you up with some guided dives at Roubidoux and Cannonball, either with me or a number of other good local divers, none of whom would accept payment other than treating for lunch. You do know that our caves have a water temp of 55-60 F, right?

I am working toward my Trimix Instructor card, and as such could co-teach the class with another Instructor at our shop, which I would love to do. I could also refer you to a number of other local TM Instructors. We can discuss that in terms of your time frame, diving goals, etc.
