Anyone knows the story with the Devil's eye. I couldn’t find the permanent line. I had to come back up and go through the ear to reach my objective, Keyhole.

Why do I like cave diving? It's the one place where my kids can't follow me.

Its a couple of years since I bothered entering via the Eye but then you had to run a line through to the main line. Although good practice it always seemed more hassle than fighting the flow through the Ear.

There is a connection from the Eye to the Ear. There is no permanent line in the Eye. You have to run a line from the Eye to the mainline in the Gallery. I 'think' the mainline is now attached to the Grim Reaper sign. Even so, entering at the Eye is easier for some tank configurations and there is a lot to see between the Eye and Ear. Run the line because there is also access to the Catacombs along that area, so you COULD get lost.
Please use good line laying technique. Keep the line along the wall and floor. Weight it down with a loose rock when possible. The Eye exit is heavily used for exit and deco. Getting hung up in a line with a strong current behind you can screw up a deco schedule. Besides being a DRRAAAG too..........![]()
There was temporary line in the Eye for a few weeks a year or two ago. I don't recall why. Perhaps that's the last time perryL was there and so thought there was a permanent line.Originally Posted by Pete
FWIW - it's easy, schmesy to enter the Eye in sidemount. Just slide sideways downhill. I haven't tried fighting the Ear current in SM. It suspect with the SM profile, it would make for a very short dive sucking down air just to get in.![]()
IIRC Ginnie staff placed a "temporary" line from the Eye to the sign in the Gallery during the last flood since the tarp was in place between the Eye and Ear to help keep the spiderwebbing potential to a minimum.Originally Posted by Angie Reim

It came out the same day the tarp did.Originally Posted by Starryskies
Angie, you're right, the mainline begins at the stop sign.
