Just a thought. The Park could set it up where Manantee is the OW Class and limit it to a certain amount of students. Have Catfish avilable to Cavern Divers and Cave Divers only. Manantee is much safer and the Vis is always great. For the AOW Student, Catfish is not deep enough in open water.

We told the Ranger that we were Cave Divers. He said it did not matter. The total number of divers had hit the limit. I asked him how many were cave divers and he said two, the rest are OW Classes. I said again: "WE are not going near them. We are going to dive directly in the cave." Again he said, Absolutly NO. You have to come back another day. We are closed to divers for the rest of the day. Once it hits capacity we close the spring to divers for the rest of the day."
    You got lucky.

At first , the ranger said , no diving since they were full. I noted that we were cave diving.
She said , Oh OK , come on in and register...
I always mention that we are cave diving etc.

    Thanks!

I just spoke with the Ranger in charge of Manantee. The Rule is posted in the office at the Ranger Check In. 40 Capicity which includes OW and Cavern. Twelve Cave Diviers: 4 in Friedman and 8 in Catfish is the Max. The ranger that turned us back was in the wrong. There were only 2 Cave Divers registered that day. He said he would meet with his staff and make sure that they understood the capicity of the Cave Diver.
I hate it that I was sent home but this may clear it up for one of you so you won't be sent home dissapointed.
This should clear up this post.

So let me get this right a 13th cave diver per day would be a ecological disaster but the 1000 acres of center pivot irrigated cropland right over the recharge area is harmless? Makes total sense...

It wouldn't. Be the 13th diver that would be the problem, not it would be his dive buddie #14 that would cause all the problems. Remember it's a state park so no solo diving.
