    Default Madison Blue closed

Due to rising river levels I was notified by park management that they had to close the spring for diving and swimming. Hopefully this will be short lived because the aquifer seems to well charged. Also,Peacock is still good for all the Advanced Skills workshop attendees Saturday.

Heard today the PSSP will probably be closed in a couple of days?

    Anyone know something official?

Wouldn't be surprised. The Suwannee at Luraville is rising fairly quickly - 2 1/2 feet in the last two days - and Ellaville (upstream) is forecast to go up another ~4 feet.

Looking to hear/read some dive reports from the NFSA workshop that was held at WSPSSP today. I suspect that the conditions may have started to, or will shortly, deteriorate.

Conditions were pretty good from what I saw. I haven't seen OG basin that blue and devoid of duckweed in years Can't say reversal is going to occur, but keeping an eye of the gauges.

What are the chances of Bonnet being opened to diving? Why has it been closed for so long?

Will Bonnet be open for diving soon-no. Why? Several reasons 1) There has been a gator that would enter the cavern on a regular basis. This is not seen on a regular basis because gators have very keen awareness and will disappear before you get near the water frequently. There have been enough reliable people to see this, and I had the rare chance to see it. 2) Bonnet has a very shallow aquifer and has been bad more than it is good. When water is outflowing, the spring is fair, but 2 weeks later (or less),when that has expended,it will go down to 2' of viz. 3) There has been a lot of erosion that has occurred on the slope leading to the water from past diving. The same concern that was had by the state about Olsen, they have about Bonnet. There are plans underway by the NFSA to address these concerns, and establish a plan. I would say we will need to install infrastructure to allow access to the water and prevent further erosion. We had the same issue with Emerald,in that we wanted access, but there was significant erosion to the bank, and once the steps were built it was okay. There is a public meeting this Tuesday regarding the management plan for Peacock, and would recommend attending and voicing your concern. We had some informal contact today about an interest in obtaining regular access when condtions are a good, but be patient because it won't happen overnight.

I've not "seen" the gator, but I have heard him/her splash into the water a few times when trying to sneak a peek. Usually a bird tips her off when you try to sneak up to the sink. The bird takes off followed by the splash. And the splash has always sounded "hefty". This was probably five years ago, give or take.

There are 3 kinds of people in this world; those who are good at math, and those who are not.

They have a very keen sense of awareness, and by the time I neared the water I saw ripples, but everything long since sought cover. I did happen up the gator heading into the cave, and had camera in hand to shoot a picture, but they were long gone before I could snap a picture. I ended up in the Black Lagoon at Hart Springs with an 8ft gator that was 3ft away, don't care to repeat that again.

I love how no one has really seen this 'gator' in like half a decade.

I should have added time to my last post in reference to the gator,it was 3-4 months ago.
