Thanks. It was just on the evening news down here in South Florida and very little detail.

Looking at their gear, it is amazing some member of the sheriff's dive team didn't die doing the search/recovery.

I was thinking the same thing. Are they cave trained?

They don't need to be trained.. They are members of MCSO they are invincible and no rules laws or anything else apply to them.... They are even above the laws of physics...

Having worked with a PSD team for years, lots of agencies get the idea that they want a PSD team, without first doing the research into what it cost and the dedication it takes to make a team sucessful...... so what you end up with is a group of OW divers in wetsuits that jump in the water without the knowledge they need or even know that they need. At best they get by and no one gets hurt..... It is a thankless job, with little to no reward. Glad no one else was hurt while performing the search or doing the recovery.

Sad news indeed. I realize that the media would NEVER get the story wrong, but free diving into an overhead? Can anyone confirm or refute that part of the story?

People free dive in to overheads all the time. They are always inside the Devils Eye, Manatee, etc etc

It's not the years in your life that matter, but the life in your years.
