Default National Public Lands Day at Madison Blue on September 28, 2013 (AKA ECO-Day III)

Madison Blue Springs State Park needs your help on September 28, 2013. Earlier this year, the NFSA and NACD had to cancel their annual ECO-Day at Madison Blue due to flooding. After trying to determine the best date to reschedule, we have decided on September 28, 2013. The significance of this date is that it is also National Public Lands Day (NPLD), and this year marks the 20th anniversary of NPLD.

We will meet at Madison on September 28, 2013 and do many things that we were scheduled to do last March. After a half day of working, some generous donors have provided lunch and door prizes. In the near future, we will repost work to be done. Until then, go ahead and make plans to attend and help support one of our favorite dive sites. I bet you will also have time to squeeze in an afternoon dive.

We originally had about 30 volunteers committed for ECO-Day III. If you can volunteer for NPLD at Madison, email Sandy Robinson at sandynfsa@gmail.com or pr@nationalassociationforcavediving.org. We will provide you more information in the next few months.

If you are like me, I did not know what NPLD was until recently but have learned that it is the largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands in the USA. It started in 1993 with 700 volunteers volunteering in 3 public sites. Last year, the NPLD had their biggest turnout with 175,000 volunteers volunteering at 2200 public sites. Volunteers help collect invasive plants, build and maintain trails, remove trash, and improve our public lands. NPLD provides education on our environment and natural resources, builds partnerships between the public sector and local communities, and improves our public lands. This sounds a lot like what the NFSA and NACD do for our parks. For more information on NPLD, visit www.publiclandsday.org.

See you in two months at Madison!

    Safe diving,

Hi all, just a reminder for National Public Lands Day. We are still set to give some assistance to Madison on the 28th of this month. If anything changes, I will let you know. We can use wheel barrows, shovels, and basic yard tools. Email me at the addresses above if you can help. Lunch will be provided. In advance, thanks for your help!

I wish I could be there but I am going to be travelling out of state through this weekend.

Have fun and be safe everyone!
