Hey Dave, I use rechargable batteries on my back up lights. The initial cost is more but it has saved me money. Of course the favorite caver hobby of buying batteries on sale is kind of ruined! Cindy

    Dave,

When are you coming to PSSP again?

I should be in that area on Saturday again (seems to be my only weekend day off these days)

Default Correct me if I am wrong

The Salvo back-up light is a Princeton Tec Surge. If not somebody forgot to get a patent. I have had three and it look just like mine, 8-4 cell capability and all. As far as lights go, with the new small canisters I don't see why you wouldn't carry two Slimlines if you could afford the freight. Even if you used a 30W Halogen on the back up it's still going to give you plenty of time to exit and still enjoy the sights on the way.

yeah. the double slimline: the ultimate backup. If I could afford it I'd put two MR11s on one goodman handle and combine the two cords by routing them through a long piece of road bike innertube. I'd probably turn em both on too.

I use cheap rechargables with good results in all LED lights for caving. I bought some expensive C cell rechargable batteries and did a burn test with my SL4s; waste of money. instead of four hours I got two. Cindy, what kind of rechargable batteries and charger do you use?

Celia, this weekend I'm going to TAG. So's Pat. Save some cave for me!

That way I can point a light on my gauges and not blind myself with 10Watts of HID. I'm thinking of using a red LED, so its just enough light for that purpose, and no more.
I got one of those at TAG this weekend. I tried it out in a AL spring, and even used it to do some mapping. It is amazing how much light that little thing puts out.

FWIW, I sometimes use a HID for a backup.

It's the surge + a xenon bulb... much brighter.

Any UK dealer should be able to get them.

I was so impressed with the light I saw emitted from FW's that we bought 3 of them that night when we got back to the TAG campsite. The best part was getting them for only $13 each, no tax.
