    Default Personalities of Cave Divers...

Was recently told that there was a study conducted about the personality traits of cave divers. It was done several years ago and I am interested to read it if such a study actually exists.

Does anyone have a copy of it or a link to the study?

    Thanks!

Bill Oigarden (on this forum) just completed a survey, but I am unsure if he is ready to release his data. Would be fun to see Myers-Briggs on cave divers.

Was that study male only? Although, it would be hard to get a statistically significant sample of female cave divers, I suppose <G>. I liked the idea of MBTI.

Default Dyadic adjustment and personality traits in cave divers: An exploratory study

I have completed my dissertation. I defend on June 27. Once the dean signs off I can publish the data. Most likely in July or August. My study examined psychobiological traits. These are traits based on a top down approach derived from factor analysis.

The first round of my study in February was limited to male cave divers. The literature review showed significant gender differences. After I defend I will open the study to everyone. Yes ladies it is almost your time. Stay tuned for the new SurveyMonkey link in a month or two.

I am not an expert on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator but I believe it is based on adjectives indicating a personality profiles that are very useful in business communication such as team building. It seems it would also be useful in activities such as premarital counseling.

Apparently the test seems to group me as an ISTP...dunno what that means about my cave diving...

Bob Millot at the University of Florida conducted a series of Myers-Briggs surveys of cave divers throughout the late 80s and early 90s. I believe he was working with Milledge Murphey on analysing them, and Milledge might have published the data in some sports psychology journals.

    Default Millott, Murphey, and Bunnell

Celia is correct about what does it mean. kensuf is correct about Millott and Murphey. Dave Bunnell of the NSS also studied cavers. The issue is that unless you compare the personality traits to other variables you don’t have much to work with. By the way Millott and Murphey are still alive and doing well. Talked to Milledge last year. Patience grasshopper.
