    Default Safety

The NSS-CDS needs your need help. If you see problems with the lines, signage or markers and othe issues please reach out to the following people.

Please realize this list is a work in progress and will have frequent additions and changes to it as required as we add new caves and new volunteers. If this list is not current we need to know so we can update it.

Together we can create great things.

    Safety

The NSS-CDS "Okaying the lines" program is composed of several volunteer members of the CDS to keep their eyes & ears open regarding the safety of our caves. The individuals below have accepted responsibility to pay particular attention to specific cave systems in terms of safety. These volunteers will look for, and listen to you for problems with lines, signage, markers and any other issues that may arise in or around the caves they are watching over. If you see safety problems in one of the caves please contact the people who have volunteered for that cave system, or contact the NSS-CDS safety coordinator Jim Wyatt via e-mail at [email protected] or by phone 352-363-0013.

We also have a safety officer forum where you can post problems or concerns, and you can discuss general safety issues. This forum can be found at: The NSS-CDS Forum

Please realize this list is a work in progress and will have frequent additions and changes to it as required as we add new caves and new volunteers.

There are other members of the CDS safety committee who have not yet identified the caves they would like to pay particular attention to. If you would like to volunteer for a particular cave system to watch over please contact Jim Wyatt via e-mail at [email protected] or a phone call at 352-363-0013.

Thanks Tony for the list. Has anyone ever thought about posting a POC actually at the dive site? I can't remember ever seeing one. i.e. The emergency directions sign at Cow. Just a thought.

Great idea. Do you know anyone who does printing?

If we could get done sign donated that would be fantastic.

That sign is at Cow, because it is an NSS-CDS property. It wouldn't look very good to post the above list at another dive site. Probably not even a good idea to post it here

Sorry but not too sure what you are getting at. I was refering as to a location to post the info. i.e. a small, business card size magnet that could be attached to the sign and removed when there are updates. Usually we just post any line issues on here and they always get addressed. And as always, thanks to the ones that perform this service in keeping us as safe as possible. But, what about a situation that needs to be addressed very fast. As I stated above...just a thought.

I think you have the right idea in posting here. This forum isn't connected with any caving organization, so it is neutral.

Dear Kenny P, I know of a cave in Alabama without line in it... what to do?

Tony, Shepherd is a spring, not a sink, and the wildlife refuge its in doesn't allow vehicles in year round... so its like a 5 mile hike, or a 5 mile paddle from Wakulla Beach, with about two dozen portages and a short tidal window that will almost certainly have you wading around on oysterbeds. While it may not be closed to diving, its hardly an open site by most standards.

Gopher Sink is absolutely closed, on St Joe property thats leased to Triple H hunting club.

Harveys has some goldline, but also alot of old line. It probably doesn't need gold line to encourage more diving though.

Church has old line too, but its on private property.

Revell Sinks are on private property, line in Revell Sink is OK the last I checked. Line in some of the other sinks on that property are wonky as hell. However, they probably don't need to be messed with either.

Strickland Sinks are on private property, but I hear the lines are crap.

    Interesting list

Please let Jim Wyatt know. This is the reason I posted this so we could get this list updated.

    Mat,
If you're in Harvey's in the near future, there's a tie-off on the main line near the tee to the crystal room that needs looking after. The gold-line is tied around a breakdown rock on the floor which is heavily eroding--and the line probably won't be on there too much longer...probably should have another silt stake installed. (I'd forgotten about it, but saw it again today while watching my video).

Thanks, I'll get out there within the next month or so I'm sure.
