Hmmmm...I haven't seen any attacks on CDS members or the instructors, this is not what this is about. Its weird to me that people are taking others members who are talking about ideas they feel will help the CDS and personalizing it as a attack on them.

I'm pretty certain it hurts the organization, NOT helps it. Good job.

I must be missing something. Can you explain how this is perceived as an attack on the members of the cds?

I agree. There are many members or would be members who have no wish to chime in on the internet bulletin boards or do not want to be involved because they are turned off by some of the people who attack the CDS members on the forums. They have nothing to hide, they just want to enjoy the diving rather than get wrapped up in the political BS. Don't get too caught up believing that your virtual world equates to the real world, because you would be surprised.

What attacks???? There's not a single post where an NSS-CDS affiliate was attacked just because of the professional relationship that exists.

If someone chooses to "stay out" of any possible issue thats fine but they should also keep there mouths shut when things dont go they way they had envisioned.

I dont think anyone thinks that a "virtual" world equates to the "real" world, there's only one world and we all live here.......whenever I hear things like "in my world" I have to laugh a bit while I feel sorry for the fool that makes such statements.

NSS-CDS has considerable influence in setting standards due to its age, size, and affiliations. Dropping the teaching and certifying role would remove that influence without producing any gain. The other certifying agencies would not accept NSS-CDS as an accrediting agency. If there is to be an accrediting agency, it will have to be an organization made up of representatives from all or a.most all certifying agencies. That is what universities have.

Thanks Allen, I think you may have missed some of the thread. Your concerns are addressed, nobody is suggesting that we try and ask or force the agencies to do anything. If you read back you'll see that indeed the process would involve instructors from many agencies (the training committee)

Do you consider a difference in opinion an attack? Really?

Who's virtual world are you reffering to?

Are you not enjoying your diving? Are you aluding that I'm not? I certainly am

What standards have the CDS set as of late that have influenced the rest of the cave diving community?

I believe the CDS would be highly influential if they were to step up their core mission of conservation, exploration, and education.

I agree with your accredation suggestions, and the very same thing has been brought up here in this thread. It has nothing to do with other agencies, simply asking the best representatives of our community to take part(from all agencies).

Wow. You guys missed my point. I didn't say you guys attacked anyone or that this thread is an attack on anyone or the CDS. And of course, I don't feel a difference of opinion is an attack. Settle down, my post wasn't about you. I feel this thread is due to Chris' poll failing to show results that are to his liking, but not an attack. However, if you have been reading the posts on here in just the past week, and you have not noticed critical posts by some about the CDS board or events, then you simply have not been keeping up with current events. You may not think anything of them, but others do, and they want no part of it. My comments about the virtual world mean that just because a few vocal and prolific posters post certain views, it is certainly not the view of the majority and many voices do not get heard simply because the behavior of the vocal minority turns them off. Of course I am enjoying my diving; why would you even think otherwise? My thoughts on the CDS removing the training sounds a lot like 'Change we can believe in,' and look how well that has turned out. I look forward to your cards and letters.

LOL, results not to my liking? Do you really think the third question on the poll was anything but me being a smartass? The thread with the poll showed results EXACTLY to my liking. I wanted to start a discussion, it worked.

Now, there were a couple things that surprised me, one was how many people kept talking about getting the agencies onboard when the plan never included that anyhow. I am not sure it that is because people didn't read it thru or didn't comprehend. Thus this thread.

The other that surprised and disappointed me was that other than the whole attack type stuff and comments that the agencies will never come aboard, I have gotten a disappointing amount of replies to either thread that articulate why the current structure of the CDS is working.

By the way, I am not a vocal or prolific poster on here, this subject is making me one one, but historically that has not been the case.
