I spent some time Saturday with Margaret, Assistant Head Of Jackson County Parks and Recreation, and some time Sunday with Jackson County Sheriff McDaniel. Both seemed to be eager to have a sit-down with a few representatives of the cave diving community, to fine-tune the entry and access procedures of Jackson Blue Spring.
I gave them both a short list of things that I would like to see. I stressed that these were MY opinions, and that they don't necessarily represent the opinions of others. These points included allowing all qualified cavern-and-up divers in (there has been talk of allowing full cave only), allowing cave instruction, giving us a key to the restrooms, and maybe allowing primitive camping in the upper section of the park. Both Margaret and the sheriff agreed that these points were valid.
Sheriff McDaniel asked me to form a committee of around six divers, and e-mail their contact information to him. I've come up with Forrest Wilson, Edd Sorenson, and Kelly Jessop so far. We need several more.
If you would like to be on this committee, or if you know someone who would be a good representative, reply on this forum, or PM me. I'll try to finalize a list by Thursday.
Russell
