    Default Cow Springs Clean-Up/Work Day

    We are at it again....

On Nov 2nd we will be hosting a work day at Cow Springs and on Nov 3rd in celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the NSS-CDS we will be hosting a few speakers to talk about Cow Springs history/exploration.

In addition to Cheryl and myself Marissa Lasso is also helping to organize the event.

Please mark your calendars. We hope to see you there one or both days.

Can't make it but want to help out. We are always looking for door prizes.

    More details to follow.

I understand that a walkway and steps are going to be installed at Cow. Will that work be done on November 1 also?

    Steps yes but a walkway...really?

It should be done within a month from now.

From the last time I was at Cow it was in need of erosion mitigation, which a walkway can help reduce impact, but cause new channels of water flow causing new erosional areas. Any thoughts to addressing erosion? I know some consider the work done at Little River a monstrosity, and far out side the CDS budget, but it has stemmed an erosional nightmare there. How about some silt screens? PS: thanks for taking the initiative to addressing the problems there.

You guys never cease to amaze me, with your on-going improvement programs. Steps at Cow!!! Once you say it out loud you realize it is another brilliant idea (just like the emergency sign you posted at Cow). I agree steps will go a long ways in helping preserve the basin and its surrounds.

In lieu of a walkway, which could be steep & slippery, maybe just adding some limestone gravel (or whatever you call broken-up limestone) along the path as it nears the basin could achieve your erosion mitigation? The erosion appears most noticeable there. It would look more natural, cost less, and provide better footing. The rest of the path up to the parking area looked pretty good to me a month ago.

Thanks for staying on top of this stuff. Wish I were there to help you with these projects. But, then again, I'm an architect by training and we always think we have a better way of doing something, so you're probably lucky I live as far away as I do, lol.

Rebreathers are something that we have to go to in order to dive the way we want to dive. They are not something we go to for any other reason.

We are planning to implement preventative erosion methods and monitor as needed.
