    Default French Speleo 50th anniversary

The Fédération Française de Spéléologie is turning 50 and having a big bash at Millau, (where they have that enormous bridge, you know the one). Looks like a cool shin-dig, typically fabulous food and drink, plus... a world record attempt at the longest Troylean...
Apparently the current record is a whopping 1300m, (4265 feet), and this lot (pardon the pun) are going for 2100m (6890 feet)!
More info (in English) here: http://www.millau2013.ffspeleo.fr/index.php?lang=eng

That sounds great. Have they finished the chunnel between America and France, that way I can save the airline baggage fee, carry on fee,can of soda fee, earphone fee, blanket fee, I didn't clean my ears with Q-tip fee etc etc. If you go would love to hear a report!

That's about right. We learned quickly that although the flight wasn't horribly expensive and staying anywhere outside of Paris isn't too bad, all the damn fees are ridiculous. We were going to take one gear bag but it was so heavy the fees for overweight and size were as bad as just taking two smaller gear bags. It's gonna cost $100 per gear bag per direction for a grand total of $400 added to our flight costs which is ridiculous. I'm hoping the old trick of curb checking bags and tipping very well will lead to no extra fees. Of course the trick is to tip right off the bat before you even hand over your bags. The risk is you tip big and still have to pay the fee, but its worth the gamble.

Not ideal for France, but if you are coming to Europe on a bit more of a tour, consider flying into/out of the UK with Virgin Atlantic. They have a pretty good baggage policy, we use them every time for Florida.

    6kgs - Carry-on
23kgs/50lbs - Free bag in the hold
23kgs/50lbs - Free SCUBA bag in the gold
    23kgs/50lbs - 1st extra bag 48USD each way
    23kgs/50lbs - 2nd extra bag 112USD each way
    23kgs/50lbs - every additional bag @ 112USD each way

All on standard economy. The last flight we booked was £ 440 / 685 USD Manchester to Orlando RETURN

It is quite variable in cost, but definitely worth a look when searching the usual transatlantic AA/United/US Airways etc.

Most of the flights are full of us brits going to or from Disney World. It's generally around 600-900 USD if you have a bit of flexibility and avoid the holidays. Easter, July and August can be expensive at around 2500 USD return.

Delta has a whole section on their website about sports gear including dive equipment. It comes off as in dive gear would be considered separate from a second, as in its not charged the same as additional checked bags. The reality is different than the way it read to me. Regardless of whats in it they still consider it a second bag and charge you $100. Oh well, youve gotta pay to play i guess.
