I used to work in Panama City and I go down there regularly in the summer to dive. Even though it's only 56 miles there are several small towns where the speed limit drops to 45 and they are all patrolled by cops regularly. Once you get about 10 miles north of Panama City you hit lots of traffic, and no, they don't know how to drive. It's easily an hour and 15 minutes to get to the gulf from Marianna.

As for OW sites in Marianna, there are none. The Mill Pond is an average of 5-6 feet deep. You can find 10' in some areas, 15' at the entrance to the caves. This time of year you have to also be alert for boat traffic. There's a lot of it on the Mill Pond when it's warm, even during the week. There were 3 boat trailers at the ramp today when I pulled up at 10am.

When you make that hour and 15 min. drive, I suggest diving with Panama City Dive Charters, they have been doing it for awhile, give cave fills on LP cylinders if asked, etc.
