    Default Madison - Martz only

The Withlacoochee came up over night and is backflowing into Madison Blue. Basin vis is pretty much 0 and continues into the main tunnel. We did not venture far before aborting for Martz. At Martz the vis is probably 30 feet but begins to drop as you head to the mainline. At Mainline it was 15 feet of vis. We only went upstream but I can imagine the vis drops as you approach the headspring and any of the tunnels in that area like Godzilla would be pretty much 0-vis. Around 1100 feet it clears to nearly perfect visibility a very sticking effect like a wall of blue. There is no flow from Martz all the way back into the courtyard. In some ways very nice conditions although it is a bad sign that a 'With at 11 feet can stop Madison in its tracks I think the springs are running low again.

We dove their Sunday the 17th and the vis. was still decent 40' @ the beginning of the goldline and improving to 80-100' or so in the Mount Tunnel. The flow was noticebly down, probably the lowest I've experienced there; I'd agree that Madison isn't pumping very much these days.

If you look at the guages on the Withlacoochee at Quitman (in south GA),from the 13th,the river has gone up 14ft. South GA had 5+ inches of rain,so it is anticipated that the Withlacoochee will go way up,and blow out the systems on the river. I always look at this as a good thing, because it heals and replenishes the caves.

Yes, but is it "officially" closed?
