You people are animals. I set up my S-10 Blazer and 5x8 enclosed trailer for two or three divers, but traveled alone most of the time.

Then last year when I had a regular dive buddy, I realized how spoiled I was, and thought about going to a 6x10.

Now that it's just me again, I think what I have is the perfect size for one person. I can't imagine two divers in just the Blazer with no trailer, much less two in an Element!

16 mpg isn't all that bad considering I carry a small dive shop with me.

I solved the problem by having two cars. A little import (currently a Mazda Protege, next will be a Honda Civic) for daily driving, and a Chevy Suburban for "hauling stuff." The suburban will haul 4 cavers with all their gear (including stages, but no scooters), and I get about 16mpg when fully loaded down. 18mpg when it's just me. I only drive it when I'm "hauling stuff" (stuff = boat, utility trailer, or tons of dive gear), and use my little Protege the rest of the time.

I bought the two of them for less than what an all-purpose vehicle would have cost, but I was only interested in them being mechanically sound. I don't care what my cars look like. I'm about to get the entire exterior of the Suburban rhino-lined in fact. It will be indestructable then.

p.s. mpg is calculated when I drive like a sane person. On trips to the Keys, it's more like 15, but that's doing 85+ with a full load of gear.

You might want to take a submersible chainsaw so that you can cut your way out if the entrance gets blocked

I may only be able to carry gear for two divers(in my F-250 crew cab 4x4 diesel).....but I bet you can't get to Eagles Nest when the roads are bad! :P

I can carry weekend gear for two divers in my truck....but a lot of the time we have to put some of the stuff(like scooters) in the back seat of the truck. With just me, the bed of the truck is 75% full....and that's usually just necessary equipment(that I plan on using), spares, and tools.

Yeah, the chances of me getting to Eagle's Nest in wet weather are approximately zero.

The roads really aren't that bad anymore. I really can't think of a automotive vehicle that couldn't make it back there...

    Default AWD

Thats the excuse I gave my wife to get all wheel drive on the Element.
She has no idea what Eagles Nest is but it sounds good if you say it quick and don't linger on the subject.. It goes something like this...

"Gee the AWD will work well when I go to Eagles nest...... And look the rubber floors work well when Sara spills something." See work the baby in very quickly.

    I'm just kidding ladies

Looks like this weekend is going to OK Ophelia is moving northwest.

Yea....but lets see you haul 8 tanks, a scooter, and all the other misc gear in your Miata....AND be able to tow 10,000lbs at the same time! The towing capability is why I have the truck....I just got the 4wd instead of 2wd so I can take it places like Eagles Nest when the weather is lousy.

On the bright side.....diesel fuel is finally cheaper than unleaded again....by about 30 cents per gallon in Orlando!
