    Default Springs Eternal

While diving P3 with my buddy last weekend, we encountered an interesting woman. She's working on a project to save the springs called Springs Eternal Project within the Alachua Conservation Trust. Attached is an image of the fact sheet (it's in a magazine-like format and is 4 pages.) I'd be happy to scan the it for anyone who is interested. Contact me by PM or whodunit68 at gmail. I will be heading up to High Springs today and will have it with me for anyone who is interested in seeing it. Lesley Gamble (she doesn't work on drysuits, sorry) also gave me permission to give out her contact information but I will do that in email or PM rather than a public forum. I will send her the link to this thread.

The idea of the project is to raise awareness of the significance of the springs as well as work to protect them. They are looking for sponsors for a special initiative which will have a photo of a spring on Urban Aquifer buses. Sponsors would receive the donor name or logo displayed on the bus back panel, a framed photo by John Moran, and a day of spring hopping (for a $100k donation.) There are other donation amounts. More information can be found on JohnMoranPhoto.com.

I will seek to connect Lesley with those of you in our community who are working in support of the springs. She's a professor at U of F and I know we have a prominent professor in our community. I will ask him for his permission to connect as well.

I know many of us have a great interest in water and springs quality and this is a chance for us to work together with an organization that seems to be working in that direction as well.
    Thanks,
    Steve

Thanks Steve for putting this info up. John Moran is a great guy and photographer and he truly loves the rivers and springs and he's using his talents as a photographer to help save them. He's been working on this subject matter for decades and he was friends with Wes. (I first met Wes at John's Gainesville Sun "retirement" party at Kate's Fish Camp.)
The opening for this is on March 23rd on the UF campus.

Hmm always a little leery of anyone that is not part of our group that wants to protect something we are using. I would like to hear more of her agenda and be sure she is not going to save the spring from us too! I could just see a presentation of all the threads on here talking about damage! The finger could get pointed back at us real quick. Is she a certified cave diver?

John Moran's photography is amazing. Some of his work is hanging in great outdoors for those who aren't aware (I'm sure many are). I saw the flier for this at CCDS yesterday, I'm very interested in going to the opening for this when March rolls around.

We had that problem at the Walulla hearing. Some of our photos of cave damage were used against us, claiming it was cave divers that did the damage.

You have a good point, I met her while diving at Peacock as well, in December I think. I gave her a very hard time and pointed out why i think her "cause" will fail but she's a true believer and I don't think she's working against us but I could be wrong.

I was impressed with her resolve, dedication and willingness to argue when confronted with tough facts so I gave her 100 I think and insignificant amount of money considering the fight she picked.

Yep,the photos were from open water/cavern areas, and not even in state parks. I had someone claim it was because cave divers were bored during deco and did the grafitti. That is BS,why don't we have this issue at places like Indian,Morgan,Alachua,Diepolder-they have long decos, but guess what no OW divers are allowed here.
