    Default Heat for upcoming social

I've never been to one of these things, assume there will be a fire, but I've got a couple of heaters, you know the one that look like jet engines and put out a whole lot of heat, would they be helpful? I'm assuming again that coming out of the water in the middle of the night might be a chilly experience and that heat would help?

In the past, Ginnie staff has always provided enough firewood for a huge bonfire. I assume they will be doing so again this year.

If the forecast calls for temps near freezing, they would be nice to have under the pavilion at the cookout. But right now, long-term forecasts have the low at 42° on New Year's Eve. So keep an eye on weather.com.

If you're diving wet, you gotta hit the shower to don and doff your suit. That hot water makes even the worst temperatures tolerable.

I remember one of the first years we did this - I believe before the CDF even existed - one of the guys had a digital thermometer and it was 22.5° as we were gearing up. I had parked the dive trailer over near the pavilion, so I ran an extension cord and plugged in a space heater. Quite a few people took advantage of the situation and suited up in my trailer.

Another thing I remember about that year was I set my mask and fins on a picnic table as I was gearing up. When I picked it up to go to the water the (wet) neoprene mask strap cover felt as brittle as a potato chip. I remember carrying it gingerly to the water because I thought it might crack - as soon as I lowered it into the water it was back to normal.

(Yes, everyone who suited up in the trailer also used it AFTER the dive.)

I'll try to bring them then, best way to ensure warm weather is to be prepared for cold, and they may be nice for whoever is cooking. It will take another vehicle and trailer, but that way I can bring my dirt bike to ride around too

I did hit the showers but prob was everything was inside the truck...phone, clothes, keys...so I had to walk to the guard, call AAA and then walk back...thats what made it rough...
