I have already started going "every other" weekend, and camping at the Alamo...it's cheaper than the gas per trip from Jax...

Anyone want to make book on the generous availability of Gas when it stabilizes above $4?

    Russell,

Our 12 year-old Shepherd mix female is very near the same condition. My Heart and Prayers go out to you...time with her is of UPMOST importance; and IMHO NO ONE should dive when there are personal issues topping your mind...

$5.75 a gallon is approximately £0.85 per litre. Over here in the UK a gas station selling gas that cheap would have queues!!!

Seriously, all of us over here are shocked at the devastation KATRINA has caused and our thoughts are for the thousands homeless in New Orleans.

There are 4 of us leaving out of Indianapolis tomorrow for the weekend for some long awaited cave diving. Does anybody have any updates or cautions to offer about the fuel situation enroute? Our route takes us to Nashville, TN then towards Atlanta GA and onto High Springs. We are driving a diesel truckso hopefully that should be helping cost and availability. We have been told that in High Springs things seem to be pretty normal. Thanks in advance for the info.

In New Port Richey (south of "cave country"), away from the interstate on US19, diesel jumped from 2.63 to 2.89 between 9am and 5pm today. 87 Octane was 2.89 to over 3.00. Lines were common.

I was suprised to see today that about half of the stations I passed were out of gas....the others had long lines. I got lucky and found a station that had no gas, only diesel.....so I didn't have to wait in ANY lines. The price had gone up about 30 cents since yesterday....but, at least they had diesel.

I know there are many stations and truck stops in Georgia that are completely out of gas AND diesel. I'd suggest not letting the fuel get below 1/2 a tank the whole way....just in case you end up not being able to find any for a hundred miles or more. Click on the link below for info on restrictions/availability of diesel at TA Travel Centers.

I don't know of any other truck stops/gas station chains that are posting this type of info on their websites.

    Russell,

I am sure your puppy has had a great life, you sound like a great pet owner and I am sure she will go with the dignity that becomes a noble and loyal friend.
My heart goes out to you.
We had a similar experience with our 13 y/o German Shepherd, it's like losing a family member if not a child...

    Best,

Well there were long lines at one station here and they said that there would not be anymore for 7 to 10 days. As they said it behind the line was a fuel truck bringing in more so who knows what to think or who's word to trust.

As was suggested to me,maybe some cave diving rules could apply nicely to fuel ie 1/3s or 1/2 + 200 This sure would allow for some unplanned problems.
