For those following the ASA award ceremony or those wishing to find out about it, we are a month away from the January 19th date. The ceremony is shaping up to be a fantastic evening of events. Dr. Kenny Board, the Nat-Geo explorer of the year recipient, is slated to be the keynote speaker. If you do not remember, he was the one who was on the expedition in the Bahamas with Wes and Brian when they shot the Nova documentary Extreme Cave Diving. (Available on Netflix) We also have a local band playing. But most importantly, this will be the first of the Edd Sorenson Outstanding Achievement Awards to be handed out. ASA will be giving it out each year to a person who demonstrates outstanding achievements in conservation and protection of natural resources. For Edd this includes the environment and human life. He has set the bar high but the award will be well deserved for those who meet its requirements. There is also a big surprise planned for the end of the evening but it is being kept a secret. Please plan on a long evening!! The event is free and a meal will be provided by Mark and his staff from Madisons Warehouse. The location is at the Jackson County AG building 3631 Highway 90, Marianna beginning at 5:00PM. If you plan to attend and have not already RSVP on facebook or through email, please do so. We need to wrap up the head count for food preparations. Or you can call the ASA phone at 850-694-2422. You may have to leave a message or you can text your RSVP as well. Please include the number in your party. If you wish to donate to the cause, you may do so on the ASA website at www.aquaticscienceassociation.org. I hope to see many of you there and finally get to putting faces with the names. Please remember, we have kept this quiet from Edd for many months and would appreciate everyone helping us maintain the secret.
