Now, for my next question. In doing a check of my equipment. Assessing what is usable, needs servicing and what needs replacing. I pulled out my light, a dive rite 10w HID. I charged the battery and turned it on and it worked, quite well. For about 3-4 minutes. That isn't much of a burn time. I need a new battery, but where can I get one? Dive rite doesn't even list this light in their retired section. I can find voltage specs one the battery.
Measure the inside diameter, and depth of the canister. Then go here: http://www.batteryspace.com/divelightbatteries.aspx
I suspect it had a NiMH, or even a NiCad battery, probably 12 volts. Just pick a 12v battery that will fit in the canister (leaving room for the lid, and connector). Be sure to get a charger for whatever battery chemistry you choose. If you need help, just post the size of the canister, and someone can help you.

If he bought the light in 2001, more than likely it's a 12v, 2.9aH lead acid battery. That's what my first HID (a Dive Rite, bought in 2001) was.

You can get one at any battery store for around thirty bucks, but won't have the burn time of a modern battery.

It may be worth looking into having Bobby upgrade the light

i think it is a NiMH. looks like a bunch AA batteries soldered together and wrapped in clear shrink wrap.

Which canister do you have? Is it a Wreck canister, or a Slimline? Or just measure the inside diameter. You might have an aftermarket battery already. Does the charger say what type of battery?

I am not at home right now, won't be back for another 1 1/2 weeks. (Yes, I have to work for christmas) but, it is the slimline canister. the charger is just a generic charger that is intended to charge several different types/styles of batteries. I will try to get the Mrs to get some pics.

Does anyone have the inside dimensions for a Slimline canister? I have a Wreck canister, but not a Slimline.

The Slimline canister is 7" deep by 2" in diameter.

FWIW, I have one I bought in 2004, and the NiMH battery pack still gets me over two hours. But it's been used monthly.

Try charging the pack and discharging it several times. Sometimes you will get some of your time back. Not sure if it will be enough but its worth a try.
