Can you point out the thread? The only way we stop things like this is to confront it. Yeah sometimes being the cave police means you come off seeming like an AH,but if people like this die,it is called a cave dive by the media, and the person is a cave diver-hence we lose.

Okay thanks. Isn't Godwin's law that all internet forum threads will eventually degrade to a reference to nazism or Hitler?

No kidding! Why aggravates me the most is this self proclaimed mega cave explorer is advocating this type of behavior and stating that "folks like me" brought the name upon ourselves. He is also suggesting that my attitude of requiring training, safe practices, and policing our own is what get caves closed. Deaths of the untrained have nothing to do with it.
It's not the years in your life that matter, but the life in your years.
Late last century, Tyler was conducting an Intro Class and at about that time I was one of his interns. He literally took a female OW instructor (who had six students with her) by the tank valve and tank boot and threw her out of the cave after she refused hand signals telling her to surface. She was taking her students on a trust me, no guide line, visual jump traverse between the Eye and the Ear.
Tyler was charged with assault by the Gilchrist County Sheriff after she filed a complaint against him. At the initial appearance in Gilchrist County Court and hearing the complaint, the Judge dismissed the charge against Tyler stating that Tyler's "actions was not an assault but akin to him pushing someone out of the way of a fast oncoming train." He made it clear that the OW instructor was someone who was too stupid to even know the danger they were in and admonished the OW instructor for her lack of care and her recklessness toward her students.
The matter was brought to the attention of her OW agency who after a review removed her teaching credentials.
A Couple of other things:
1. Regarding the YouTube video, can't it be flagged for stupidity?
2. As FW mentioned the cave vandal it should be pointed out that between legal fees, fine and restitution it cost him over $8,000.00

FWIW: I logged onto Youtube, and reported the video to Youtube as a violation of Youtube policy. Youtube forbids videos of dangerous or harmful actions. Hopefully, if Youtube gets a few reports, they will ban this video.

That's very cool the judge understood what was happening in that situation. I wouldn't bet my future on such a wise, informed judge being given a future case. Kidnapping or assault can really mess up life, over some douche? no way.
Cave divers are presented with this dilemma almost any weekend at Orange Grove and Manatee...two that easily come to mind.
