    Default Cave agencies and email

The cave agencies journals are only quaterly, and so much can transpire between this 3 month period. Would you like or object to the agencies keeping an email data base and contacting the membership with relevant emailings.

We have looked into doing that, but the big problem is spam filters. A lot of mass emails will actually end up going to the spam filter.

There are ways around this. It is a pain, but do smaller batches.

If the sender advises everyone to add that account to their contact list, it should bypass their filter. Personally I would appreciate emails in the mid term periods.

There are so many rationales why this is a good idea. It would save the agencies money because they wouldn't have to send out election notices by mail, plus there would be wider communication with the membership-for example the CDS bylaw election and the present NACD election which is only being announced on the forums and facebook. But,something else that is important,is communication of urgent issues that could effect you. For example, with budgetary issues when the state was threatening closure of Madison and Peacock. Mass communication to the membership,so they could respond to elected officials is important to assist, but in this case the CDS and NACD were ineffective because they are only able to communicate in their journals, and by that time it was old news. How many members knew about the Wakulla diving hearing and how to respond? Only the ones who are on the forums, which means a large percent of the cave agencies membership were not aware, and the cave agencies were ineffective at this point. Please note I am not crucifying the agencies,I truly support them, but I really think with modern day data bases, and the availability of email, why can't these tools be used.

I love the NFSA newsletter. In my opinion it makes the membership worthwhile. It has never gone to my spam... I would not mind if there are other announcements from orgs. I have received several announcements from NSS and if it does not interest me I just delete. I do not mind receiving multiple e-mails, I am quite used to it (hint hint college students ).

The admin manager for the NSS-CDS sent out a mass e-mailing 2-3 yers ago to the membership regarding some issue. The ISP that CDS uses told her that it was spam, did not allow the e-mailing to go out and that if it happened again they would shut down the website.

I see mass e-mailings all the time...How do folks get around that issue?

You are right. I even get a mass emailing once a month from a dive shop in cave country, they do it. I found by talking to my server it told me what I could do.

There are several different services that can help with this. You don't do it from your local platform. They do it for you.

    Consider: Constant Contact -

or Mail Chimp - (Probably more SCUBA orriented )

    Best of Luck.

Yes, but they want money to do it.
