One of the issues with this is people still change emails and they don't bother updating everyone in their contact list. After a year or 2 the list of recipients is outdated.

The NACD is in the process of creating a members only internet forum to pass on information. This forum will be regularly updated with announcements and news. Of course, this will put it on the members to actually visit the forum and login to get this information.

I think at some point once an organization creates an email data base,it becomes the responsibility of the receiver to keep their information up to date. If I move from my address,then it is my reponsibility to notify the post office,other wise I have no one but myself to blame for mail ending up in the dead letter office. Thanks for sharing the information about a member's forum.

When I was the CDS Social Chair I sent out 3 emails to everyone on the CDS List, the email was to my email and everyone else was in the BCC list so no one could see the other email addresses.

I received several replies cussing me out for sending them an email, and one even went on the boards saying I was a fraud and the email was fake.

I have had the same problem

We would have to ask EVERY member if they wanted to receive email from the organization, before including them in a mass email. I suspect most wouldn't mind, but the few that do mind can be very vocal.

Forrest I can understand that problem. Could it be mitigated by announcing in UWS the plan to use the emailing tool to communicate with membership,and if you should desire not to receive email,then send a message to ****@nsscds.org. Then include in the membership/renewal process some way of checking if you'd like emails or not.

We have already planned to do that, once the new website goes online.

No you wouldnt, its easy enough for them to delete the email. If they #####, ignore it. Don't keep membership in the dark because a very small group of whiners.
