There was a "Special Permit" cave exploration done here several years ago. There is a resulting cave map posted on the internet. Are there any other descriptions of that exploration![]()

I am on this forum seeking information regarding the exploration of the Silver Glen Springs cave , Marion County, Florida, USA several years ago. I am inactive open water certified.
I know nothing about that scientific dive project, i guess to find scientific information you have to search in library&I-net, try crayfish as a keyword. However SGS is one of my favorite springs. What would you do next after you have that information? And as open water certified diver think about why diving is allowed in Alexander Spr and prohibited in SGS, would be there any specific danger for openwater or potential danger for the environment of SGS from openwaters. And is it perfectly legal to apply ONF (landowner) rules on a body of water which i (being unfamiliar with local law) thought is a national property? It is not a provocation, i'm just curious what other peoples opinion on that.
I have been visiting (and snorkeling) SGS since 1946 and am writing about it for amusement and to share information. As I find out more , I add it. Since my post I have found reference to another dive into the cave by Bill Belleville with Archie Hutcheson. Bill wrote "River of Lakes" where SGS is discussed in some detail in Chapt.6.
An extensive cave map is at www.floridacaves.com/silverglenmap.pdf but the scan is not sharp. Bill Foote has (had) a Photo of the huge room on the wall of his Ocala Dive Shop. Bill was the photographer. He says that the cave is extremely dangerous.

You might try contacting Wes Skiles (http://www.wesskiles.com/Karstenvs/karst.htm). The map was produced by them.
I sent an E-inquiry to Karst about a week ago with no reply. I will try the address you furnished. Thanks. You have been very congenial, just as Greg Johnson said you would be.

This is one of the more (if not the most) beautiful springs that I have been to. I have freedove the left hand opening to just past the start of the line. The cavern area is wide, but not very tall. The right hand entrance is kinda tight, IIRC, there is line in there also.
What is the spring that we are not supposed to go to like? Looking down the short run from the rope barrier makes me feel like a teenager watching BayWatch, LOL.
This is my new, non petition inclusive, signature line.
