I was taught it in class, practiced it on land and had to actually do it, in the water in the cavern at JB

I was never taught: and I took full cave from the NACD and later GUE.

So how does one repair a cave line break?

Probably the easiset way is a bowline tied into another bowline. I generally use a fishermans/prusset knot, however.

I wrote a short article that was published in UWS about a year ago about it. I'll look for it and republish it.

I was. We did land drills and then in open water at Cenote Eden.

We did instructor demo and observed practice during a full-cave classroom session. Near the top of the chimney in JB, I repaired a jump line set up by my instructor with a gap. Unfortunately, the first repair left the line too slack for my instructor's liking, so I got to do it again properly.

Fisherman's knot is probably easiest. Doesn't anyone ever read "Basic Cave Diving" anymore?

The person I was diving with was making overhand knots, which created a loop, and then tying the new spool into the loop, and the same at the other end. Seemed to work very well, allowed her to get good tension on the line, and wasn't terribly complicated. I hadn't really thought about how I would go about a line repair, if I had to do one, but I now have a good plan.

It was discussed by a couple of my instructors. After working as a firefighter, I was judged "competent" to tie the appropriate knot without actually practicing in overhead. We DID practice entanglement a few times, but always without actually cutting and repairing the line.

Melody was taught line repair in GUE Cave1, around the time you took it in MX as well. So I suspect it was explained, but since you haven't needed to use the skill before it "expired". I don't know about your other courses.
