Caverns are the appropriate cave divers terms for these Geologic features. According to some text I have read Florida does not have any,
and California is abundant with them. Well that is wrong!
Sea caves are wave cut terrace formations where ocean waves cut into a rock face or cliff undercutting and eroading into the rock forming first a cave, sea arch, then a sea stack.
These formations are not found in Florida along the current shoreline but at a depth of 143 feet below MSL, there are many along Floridas East coast. The ones I filmed friday were full of Goliath Grouper stacked in like
sardines in a can. It was wonderful!!!
Surface water temps were 82 degrees, but surprise, there were two thermoclines and at 143 feet water temp was 61 degrees. It was quite an
experience!!
Best wishes and safe caving,
Ken Roop
