Were they in the LST again? SM, 500' back - sounds like it could be. Sounds to be like people are getting to comfortable with the first deceptively "easy" first 1000' in JB and not realizing the jumps can greatly vary in complexity off the main line. All comes back to divers not knowing how to dive within their skill set.

As always, great job everyone who was involved!

    Those dang squirrels!

Land of Enchantment -- not so great for cave diving, but mighty scenic!

I agree about divers not diving within their limits but perhaps we need to drill on the instructors who give them this ability in the first place. This is a rapidly growing sport. There are many mixed theories on teaching and a lot of egos. There are only 2 ways to teach. Right and wrong. All egos need to be left out of teaching period! Our job is to teach and our goal needs to be safety. I simply do not understand any instructor who passes a student who should fail or at least be told they need more time with the instructor to demonstrate the skills necessary for survival. Not diving, but SURVIVAL!! Anyone with an instructor card can write a cert for a student but an instructor teaches and learns all the time. Myself and my buddy have pulled 1 unsuspecting trespasser off deaths door step at Ginnie just a few years back. The thing we learned then is the guy who led his poor father into Ginnie with a single al tank and a handheld light had no business possessing a cave card and his instructor had no reason to be teaching if this is the type of diver he created the day after certification. Bottom line is, there are always bad apples and people who don't listen but there is no excuse for the instructor who passed them for a paycheck or to avoid hurt feelings. Feelings mend death does not!!!! Please teach proper and safe cave diving or hang up your certs and go cave dive with your buddies and leave the teaching up to those with the common sense!!!!! I'm not saying this guy is an Instructor issue but it is becoming an issue on the rising. We all owe our part to keep our sport safe. My hats off to Edd, Frank And all the staff at Cave Adventurers. The world would be four smaller without them.
