As I understand the reason, it isn't the cave that is the issue. The park is trying to protect the vegetation around the spring, so it is closed during the regular growing season.

I thought it was a parking issue the upper lot is so small it fills very early.

It's open to swimmers during the closed diving season. I think due to the number of them that they would have more impact on the vegetation than cave divers.

It is a nice dive, but the walk to the water is a bit far. A wagon with fat tires is a must. And IMO sidemount to get thru the bedding plane and silversands restriction. Gonna hit it in October too.

I am thinking that this might be on my list in Nov. or Jan.
SM is the way to go? Just heard more about diving it that way.
Not a problem either way sounds like a great dive but a long walk!

I've heard it talked about very differently in relation to being a sm cave or not. I've heard sm is recommended to conserve the cave, and then I've been told its really a sm only cave. In the latter, the undertone of the comment is that navigating the restrictions should really be reserved to cavers that have had advanced sm training. Obviously the difference is really in the eye of the beholder as to what constitutes a sm suggested vs a sm-only dive, but it'd be interesting to get a concensus of the group as to your opinions.

I haven't been yet. I dive sm, but am only trained to the apprecntice equivalent so am very unlikely to push past any major restrictions based on how Jug's bedding planes have been described to me.

Not sure how you would get through the Diamond Sands restriction in anything other than SM, I had to turn my head to the side when I went to the left of the goldline going though the bedding plane. I know people have done it in BM, but conserve the cave, just go SM.
