Default Insulation Rooms and a Douche Alert

Whoever you are that decided to run your line from up high in the ear on 9/16/2012 straight through the middle of the ear, in the middle of the passage, then about 6' off the bottom so it could flap in the flow I have a few observations.
    • I hate you and was cursing your fail for the first 10 min of the dive
    • In all my dives into the ear I've never seen such a crappy job
    • If you put your line ANYWHERE other than where you ran it that would be an improvement
    • You need to spend more time learning/practicing line running skills
    • Next time close your eyes and toss the reel in any direction and tie off there, it will be better than your initial choice
I hope that this was some sort of spoof on not what to do, or a new student being allowed to screw up for learning purposes. I thought about cutting the line into pieces and leaving a note filled with obscenities but decided against it.

Once on the trigger the peaceful rhythm of the dive took hold and cast out the angry.

The insulation rooms were a great dive, scootered to 2k and jumped into the left passage. Followed it around, up through a dark river layer, back down to the whale bone. This is our first time checking it out and I thought it'd be much larger and grander than it was.
Insulation rooms were really nice when we weren't in dark river water. Vis was 30-40' and about 2-3' in the dark water.

Ginnie was only about a .3 out of 10 on the lord of the flies scale. No drunks, beer cans, nudity, death metal or rap. Only the occasional horns and rafters. Almost quiet and peaceful...yea, it was weird.

We once came out of Ginnie and there were like 6 lines in the ear. Three of them were in the middle like they were thrown there. With the flow it was going to be a bear to pull our reel, so one team member went up and cut the knot loose and we rolled it up from the bottom and followed the other lines out. There should have been a ""caution-cluster ahead" sign in the bottom of the ear.

Your team cut someone else's primary line!

why was it cut, did someone get entangled?

I think they cut their own line so they could just roll it up and not have to mess with unwrapping it from the other lines. At least that's how I read it.

Line placement is not always easy but keep it out of others way and following the rules is not all that hard.
It takes some practice but was emphasized very clearly in my Cave class.
In fact if it was not placed correctly it was pulled free and we re ran it correctly.
I have bad days or reels that foul but I WANT to keep my line out of the middle and very clean away from others if possible.

That is correct. It was safer to pull our line than to unsnag it from the spider web that was added. Flow was screaming and the ear is not a place to get tied up.

We started to enter at the eye, but there was a team of four pulling deco in the entrance. Well three of them were laying in the entrance and with their stages laying around them it was better to go to the ear. It was do what the heck you want day I guess.

That's probably because all 4 of them would not fit in the entrance, so one had to hang back out of the way to do his deco.

There seems to be a tendency for divers to do deco in the eye at the cave entrance rather than moving back to the far side of the eye. I suspect it starts as team members exit then immediately turn around to watch other team members exit - then they all just stay there, obstructing traffic.

I've seen lines that wrapped around mine before being wrapped around both gold lines, not to mention the primary tie off at the steps going to a secondary tie off on the floor, right in the middle of the peacock cavern...

I was glad there was no need for anything but a safety stop, it has to be dangerous to laugh that much and I couldn't stop as long as I was looking at it!

Some people... I mean, we all have our bad days, but...some of us apparently have badder days.

Out of curiosity, it is so easy to go through the eye. Why is it avoided?

I suspect it's because it is longer, requires a tiny bit more gas and is more of a PITA with a scooter.

He clearly communicated they cut their own line loose so they could reel it in from the bottom. Re-read before you panic and post.

Welcome to the new cave divers.

Gotta lower the bar enough so that everyone can pass.
Joe, I'm in complete agreement with this, so you may want to reconsider your position on the issue just for the sake of consistency.
