On Sunday my buddy and I did 2 dives. In and out the Eye each time.
1st dive exited at 1:05 PM and the flow was down a bit from 3 weeks ago and the basin had a green tint to it. There was still a good bit of flow in through the eye approaching the gold line.
**THEN WOW WHAT A CHANGE**
Dive 2 was totally different conditions.
-Another diver we met earlier was exiting form his second dive and stated the river water was moving towards the eye.
-We did not notice tanic water at the eye when we entered at 5:53 PM. It was a bit darker and still green in the basin. Also getting to the gold line was definitely less work than 4 hours earlier.
-As we came back from Harry's Crack across from Hill-400 the flow was way down. We actually had to swim a bit from the turn after 400 to the cornflakes.
-When we got back in the Gallery it was very hazy and dark, with lower flow. I would venture to guess that vis had decreased by at least 10-15'.
-Out through the eye also a good bit less flow than an hour earlier when we entered.
-Back in the basin at 6:58 PM there was a wall of tanic water 5 feet from the edge of the Eye. From the top of the eye we could see the single steps on the up river side, but we COULD NOT SEE the triple steps on the down river side.
This was a heck of a change in 5 1/2 hours since our previous dive.
I am in no way saying that Ginnie is going to reverse or siphon!!
But I have heard stories about years ago people starting dives at places like Little River and upon exit conditions had changed and they were in a siphon.
Now I fully understand just how quickly conditions can change.
I am far from being an expert on the system at Ginnie, But I have been diving there for a few years and I have never seen that much of a change in that short of an amount of time.
