I had never known this term before either, until Cindy told me to use a long tree branch to knock the big spider webs out of our paths leading to the springs we were looking for. She called them: "Spider Stiks"-!
Just thought I would pass this on .

It's a discription of use Jack! LOL, they keep the spiders from hitting you in the face! You thought I was joking when I asked if you had one didn't you? You noticed the machette. It's not just for brush.
Other usual ridge walking gear that you didn't see because I didn't take my pack for our short walk:
    GPS
    Marking tape
    Maps, pen and compass
    Water
    Snacks that don't melt
    Clean shirt
    Extra contact and sunglasses
    Hat and bug spray
    Rain coat and pants
    A cheap light
Cell phone and small first aid kit
    Lots and Lots of water
    Oh, and TP
There is a story for every item I carry. Darn if I don't need every item if I forget them! Cindy

sounds good for those nice woods up there...but when you come down to central florida dont forget Snake Boots and atleast a 9mm for all those "nice, furry, cuddling, animals" that are waiting for you in the saw grass and cat tails

I'm looking hard, but don't see any fuzzy pink slippers for Beginner Ridges/Caves...

I used to do a lot of hicking and biking on trails in the N FL woods. I would just carry a stick in front of me at face level most of the time, I HATE getting spiders or their webs on my FACE - eew!

Good list. I always add a container of chiggaway-nothing worse than red bug infestation.
