    Default Possible stolen doubles located

Here is a weird story I hope we can get resolved.
I was contacted this week by a non-diver who found a set of doubles well inside their yard. It appears that they were dumped there during the previous evening so my assumption is that they were either stolen or somebody is going though a wicked divorce. Even more odd is that they were found 50 miles north of Tallahassee in Georgia but the VIP is from the the Tampa Bay area. Obviously no name on the tank and no tank boots so I'm leaning towards a caver. I'll keep the make and model info quiet for now for the usual reasons.

Speak up or message me if anybody has an idea of who these could belong to or has an idea how I can track down the owner. Do they track serial numbers and the originating dive shop when they hydro a tank?

I'm traveling north in the next two weeks to Jacksonville and have agreed to take the detour into Georgia to pick them up. If we can figure out who they belong to I'll gladly deliver them along the I-10/I-75 trip home, if not they will stay in Tampa.

If somehow you found out the hydro facility from the rin number they should have the owners name and the serial numbers. I'm just not exactly sure who you would contact to get a list of rin numbers. I would say dot but that could be a lengthy process.

    The tank fairy visited you.

Probably couldn't get them down the chimney.

Pretty beefy tank fairy. One does not simply sling a set of doubles into someones yard. If it is a divorce situation he may have a big problem lol

The hydro was most likely done through a shop, which means many other divers could match the hydro stamp. Trace that back to whatever shop. They should have some sort of records. I'd post the numbers here and on TDS.

Contact the shop that did the VIP sticker. If the VIP is within the last couple of months, chances are they only did a handful of VIPs on doubles and they might recall a few owners, especially their regular customers. It's worth a try, if you haven't already done it.

Hydros dropped of by a shop rarely have a customer's name logged by the tester. It will usually just list the shop name.

Best bet is to hope the VIP sticker has the store name on it and the user is a regular customer and the tanks can be recognized.

Try calling the shop that did the VIP. I own a shop and we always keep a log of the tanks we viz including serial numbers and owners names, addresses and telephone numbers. It is a way for us to help track tanks should they ever be stolen or lost an found. We have actually been able to recover several tanks for customers who had them stolen.

And be sure to check that neighbor's yard tomorrow to see if the fairy has dropped off a plate and wings, or maybe a few regulators.
