Forget FL state parks. Can't get any diving agencies/organizations to even take up the cause. Will be interesting to see if CDF sets up a solo forum. FWIW: Even SB has a solo forum.

I would wager - based on what I've seen - that at least half of us solo in caves. That should count for something.

I will also wager that it's just a matter of time before somebody starts issuing "solo cave cards."

I'm an optimist, but not about FL state parks allowing solo in my lifetime.

Rebreathers are something that we have to go to in order to dive the way we want to dive. They are not something we go to for any other reason.

There's buddy diving and then there's team diving.

Just because you're in the water with another diver doesn't make it team diving and doesn't make you any more safe.

Even a whole lot of team diving is significantly less safe than it should be.

I know of divers who have certs in their pocket saying that they're team divers, but they have very little actual team awareness or communication, and when diving with them you tend to be coming along on their dive. That isn't team diving. Other people with the certs saying that they're team divers and I'd absolutely expect them to turn and run rather than help and then come up with excuses after the dive.

So I will again ask this question, can we open a solo diving forum? Let's even make it private if need be.

Don't we need two? Solo backmount and solo sidemount? I almost forgot solo CCR and solo SCR.

I'm not a moderator, but if I were, I would vote no. IMO, there is plenty of room to post solo topics without adding more forums.

That is obviously very true. The big problem is that many people will never know if they will panic or not until they are actually in a panic situation.

There have been more than one occassion that if I was on on OC, I know that my SAC rate would have been so damned high that panic of running out of gas would have been the next thing to happen.

Spending over 30 minutes to get your arse out of a passage that took you less than 3 minutes to get through on the way in made me slow down and think. I remember my thoughts exactly. "If I were one to panic, right now I would be f**ked". Granted I might squirm through more places on a RB than I would be willing to try with OC, but the same thoughts will try to creep into my head if I don't force myself to relax and take my time.

Most of the moderators feel that we already have too many unused forums. There has been no flaming in this thread by anyone, so there really isn't a need.

If anyone has a solo question, ask it here. If this thread drops off the front page, feel free to start another one.

Get rid of the unused forums and add a Solo Diving forum.

This thread is it, I'll wager if it get a whole lot of pages and a couple of other solo related threads get going, they will create a solo forum, if not a whole lot of "traffic" about solo diving exists, then there is no need for a forum. It's a logical way of doing things

Maybe we can talk about suiting up in a dry suit as a solo diver.

I remember the second day of a law enforcement rescue/recovery diver certification course. The other departments sent teams. I was alone. We were told to suit up and meet in the pool. I hit the water well before anyone else simply because I had learned to gear up alone.

Starting your zipper a few inches before slipping your head... Knowing how to bend to reach it... Even donning a BCD. I was amazed at how people seem to lose their imagination when only working as a team.
